Heatwave London! Top 5 things not to miss during this weekend?s great weather

Heatwave London: Top 5 things to enjoy
Hot, hot, hot: Summer has arrived (Picture: PA)

We?ve waited long enough, and finally it looks like summer has arrived. Granted the south is going to get the best of the weather, but a few days of sunshine and blue skies across the country seem to be on the cards this weekend.

London really comes alive under the glorious might of the summer sun, and over the next few days there appears to be plenty of things to do to make the most of the season.

1. The world?s biggest sprinkler:?Ahhh, who can forget running through the garden sprinkler in your younger years? Well this weekend, Juicy Water brings what they claim to be the world?s largest watering system to Victoria Park. So ring up your friends, pack your best swimming costume and head over to the East End for a day of ultimate refreshment this Saturday or Sunday. From 12 noon ? 6pm, Victoria Park.

2. Retail therapy on steroids:?The summer sales have already kicked in so it seems fitting that every Sunday in July, Regent Street will become a traffic-free zone. Pop on your finest flip flops and sunnies and enjoy a leisurely stroll up and down one of the capital?s finest shopping streets. Performances, installations, exercise classes and games will make this a shopping day to remember. Sunday, from 10am ? 7pm.

3. Pavements with panache:?Channel your inner hipster while topping up your tan with The Alternative London Walking Tour around East London?s creative quarter. Get to know your Banksy from your Stik, while learning about the culture and history behind the capital?s most vibrant area. Tours last around two hours and start and finish near Spitalfields Market and operate on a pay-what-you-like basis. Depart Saturdays at 12pm, 12.30pm, 3pm and 3.30pm. 4. A tasty treat for the whole family: IncrEdibles, this year?s summer festival at Kew Gardens, showcases the weird and wonderful world of edible plants at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The organisers promise a tasty mix of boating, botany and barbecues for the capital?s green-tongued visitors. And even better, kids under 16 can visit for free. Click here for more information.

5. Game, set and match: Wimbledon comes to a close this weekend, with a tournament hardly bothered by the usual British inclement weather. With the women?s final on Saturday and the men?s on Sunday, who could think of a better way to spend a lazy sunny afternoon than with a tartan picnic blanket, stash of Pimms and a whole heap of strawberries and cream? If your TV won?t stretch to your garden or balcony, you can always plug into the BBC iPlayer and make your own Murray Mound somewhere. Just keep an eye on those data charges!
